Hopefully some of the information, reflection and discussion obtained from the internet and the book by Robert M. Solomon, "Faithful to the end" A Preacher's Exposition of 2 Timothy, can be useful. Some of them are listed in the following.

Chapter 1 - Introduction: A Farewell (2 Timothy 1:1-2)

Question 1 - Reflection - Paul's Feeling and Temptation, http://veryfatoldman.blogspot.sg/2017/07/reflection-pauls-feeling-and-temptation.html [7]

Question 2 - Reflection - How to consecrate our personality to the Lord for His Glory, http://veryfatoldman.blogspot.sg/2017/08/reflection-how-to-consecrate-our.html [8]

Question 3 - Reflection - A farewell note, http://veryfatoldman.blogspot.sg/2017/09/reflection-farewell-note.html [9]

Question 4 - Reflection - How to define and explain the gospel of Christ, http://veryfatoldman.blogspot.sg/2017/10/reflection-how-to-define-and-explain.html [10]

Dear Lord, Thank you for sending Jesus Christ to suffer and die for us so that we can be saved and go to heaven. Thank You for the gospel that bring this good news. We know we have sinned and need forgiveness. We are willing to turn from our sins and turn toward You. We would like to receive this good news by having faith in Jesus Christ so that we can have the gift of salvation. Through Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen!
PHOTO: By the Old Testament Law we have sinned, and the punishment for sin is death. In order for us to go to heaven, God’s dwelling place and the realm of life and light, sin must be somehow removed or paid for. The Law established the fact that cleansing from sin can only happen through the bloody sacrifice of an innocent life (Hebrews 9:22). None of us is innocent. That is the bad news.
The gospel of Christ is the good news of His coming to provide forgiveness of sins for all who will believe (Colossians 1:14; Romans 10:9). The bad news that all are guilty of sin and condemned by God is countered by the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. God, because of His love for the world, has made a way for man to be forgiven of their sins (John 3:16). He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the sins of mankind on Himself through death on a cross (1 Peter 2:24). In placing our sin on Christ, God ensured that all who will believe in the name of Jesus will be forgiven (Acts 10:43).

Since the first man’s sin, mankind has been under the condemnation of God (Romans 5:12).
PHOTO: Since the first man’s sin, mankind has been under the condemnation of God (
Romans 5:12). The punishment for the crime of sin is physical death (Romans 6:23) and then an eternity spent in a place of punishment (Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:46). This eternal separation from God is also called the "second death" (Revelation 20:14–15).

The way to have a relationship with Jesus Christ

PHOTO: The way to have a relationship with Jesus Christ
Pray without ceasing, read the Bible, and join a Bible-believing church; all these things will help us to grow spiritually. Although we may not see changes immediately, we will begin to see them over time, and all the truths will become clear.

Assurance of salvation
PHOTO: Assurance of salvation
Once we trust Jesus, He, our great Heavenly Physician, will perfectly heal and restore us, thus our assurance is in Jesus, not in ourselves or our future.

If we have accepted Jesus and His death on the cross for our sins as full payment for our sin, we have Jesus; therefore, we are forgiven, we are saved, we possess the gift of eternal life, and heaven will be our home.

When we stand on the Word of God by faith in what Jesus has done, then the Bible assures us that our forgiveness and salvation are guaranteed.

Because you have believed in Jesus, and because you have entrusted your life to Him, you can be certain that He will take care of you until the day that He returns and takes you to live with Him forever. Your life and eternal destiny are in His hands, and He won*t drop you!

From now on, when Satan brings doubts to your mind, put your faith in the facts that are recorded in God's Word. Learn to say: "God says it. I believe it. and that settles it!"

Learn from Paul: Emulate those who were righteous, those who feared, trusted and obeyed God
PHOTO: Learn from Paul: Emulate those who were righteous, those who feared, trusted and obeyed God
Paul sought to emulate them in a way he served God. These include well-known persons (Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Barak, Samuel, David) as well as many unnamed persons, including many prophets, who were prosecuted and martyred for their faith.
Many people call Hebrews 11 the “Faith Chapter” or “Faith Hall of Fame.” This chapter lists many people in the Old Testament who were faithful to God. This chapter also explains how these people were faithful to Him. They were faithful to God in many different ways.
Enoch pleased God. Noah had respect for God. Abraham obeyed and trusted God. Isaac blessed others. Moses’ mother and father protected him. Moses suffered with the Israelites while they were in Egypt. The Israelites followed God’s instructions in Jericho. Rahab treated Israelites as her friends. Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets all did what was right for God.
Do you want to be part of the “Faith Hall of Fame”? Be like all the people listed above. Please respect God. Obey and trust Him. Bless and protect others. Suffer for Jesus. Follow God’s instructions carefully. Treat others, including your enemies, as your friends. Do what is right.
You can do it. Be faithful to God. - CPE

God was pleased with all of them because of their faith.” (Hebrews 11:39a)
PRAYER: "Dear God, help me to be faithful to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen."

Jesus Grabbing your hand
PHOTO: Jesus Grabbing your hand
Hey Soul Beautiful You? Can I grab your hand tonight and pray with you for all the hard people in our lives?

"Bless our enemies, O Lord. We bless them and do not curse them. Enemies have driven us into your embrace more than friends have.Enemies have loosed us from earth more than friends have…Enemies have made us a hunted animal, finding safer shelter than an unhunted animal does.

We found safest sanctuary in You…may too our enemies-made-grace.
We found greatest grace in You… may our enemies-made-grace find Your generous grace alive and radical in us.
We found fullest forgiveness in You… may our enemies-made-grace find faith and freedom in You and Your forgiveness working surprising ways in us.

The longer we walk with you, Lord, we find we have no enemies: only Your gift of chisels etching us deep.

Bless my enemies, O Lord. We bless them and do not curse them.
In the name of Jesus who loved His enemies to death...
Amen.

Useful to the Lord
PHOTO: Useful to the Lord
If we are to be useful to God, we have to be holy instruments. The biblical work "holy" means "to be set apart". A holy instrument is set apart for a particular purpose and used only for that purpose, such as a surgeon's scalpel is used to make incisions and not to drive screws or open cans. To be set apart also means that as holy instruments, we avail ourselves for the Lord's exclusive use. There cannot be more than one master, for Jesus did say: "You cannot serve both God and Money" (Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13).

Some get into a position that one is saved solely by the irresistible grace of God and the believer is like the passive kitten. On the other hand, others hold an extreme position of human response and responsibility that marginalises divine sovereign grace.

What is acquired and learnt, regarding the terrible characteristics of people of the last days, must be discarded. They are to be replaced by practicing having integrity and faithfulness to God in everything we do. Only by this way can we stop following the terrible lifestyle of the people of the world and do the deeds that are pleasing to God. With the Holy Spirit working in us, we will be guided to prioritize doing God's will first, just like Paul's way of life.

PHOTO: The purpose is not for Timothy and all the disciples of Jesus who would read this epistle to respond by withdrawing from this awful world. Rather, the challenge is to be involved in this world, by the grace of God, so that who we are and what we do would result in the redemption of many of these people trapped in sinful behaviour in a darkening world.
The proper Christian response to the sinful world of the last days is to mediate the presence of Christ through the manifestation of Christ's character and ministry.

Fight in the spiritual battle
PHOTO: Fight in the spiritual battle
At the heart of this battle is an unseen spiritual warfare. This fight is against the three enemies of the soul - the flesh, the devil, and the world. The fight (Greek agōn, which has the same root as the word "agony") is not an easy one, but has that bruises and hurts. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 6:12).
We must have the characteristics of a useful servant of God. As a faithful committed soldier, fight the good fight. As a disciplined athlete, finishing the race without losing and without being disqualified. And as a diligent farmer, ensuring a rich harvest both in our life and in God's field of ministry; keep the faith and prove ourselves as a holy instrument truly useful to God.
This spiritual war is not fought using weaponry, physical might and earthly power. The battle is fought through the cross of self-sacrificial love which challenged against the sinful ways of the world.

In Paul's teaching that we are embodied human beings (provide a spirit with a physical form).
PHOTO: In Paul's teaching that we are embodied human beings (provide a spirit with a physical form).  It is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), an instrument of holiness. We must, therefore, take care of the body, make sure that it is used to glorify God, and co-operate with Him in our quest for holiness. Embodied beings means the physical and non-physical parts of our lives interact and have mutual influence. A healthy soul can contribute to a healthy mind and body.

Paul knew that while no human being would be able to walk with him into death, his Lord would surely go with him.
PHOTO: Paul knew that while no human being would be able to walk with him into death, his Lord would surely go with him. His Lord who had died and was raised would personally guide him safely through death and usher him into the eternal kingdom in the presence of God. He may die soon, but whatever happened, he could trust his Lord. Even if he were put to death, he knew that his Lord would not abandon him, but would walk through death with him.

What are the key lessons learned from 2 Timothy?
PHOTO: What are the key lessons learned from 2 Timothy?

  • Paul's deep relationship with Jesus for us to do likewise
  • Live and led others into the Story of Jesus, one in which we can live and dwell securely and faithfully
  • Study God's Word and teach it faithfully, and be God's useful holy instrument
  • Serve in a Christlike manner with Christlike character and in Christlike ministry
  • Always sought to be useful to our Lord and to meet our human needs legitimately and simply
  • Keep the faith to the end, in spite of all temptations and obstacles
  • Find answers to challenging thoughts about the direction and destiny of our own lives
  • We can only be successful according to God's terms if He is with our spirits and His grace touches our lives

The modern-day church is filled with pharisees. (Lightstock ) [1]
The likes of the Pharisees and teachers of the Law have never gone away. There are still those today who look at the small things they deem wrong rather than the wonderful things God is doing! They nitpick at those who are doing the work of God because the way that work is being done doesn't please them.

Lord Jesus, help me not to be a person whose initial tendency is to find fault with what someone else is doing. Help me first to look for the good, and if any fault remains, then grant me wisdom to know how to address it lovingly.
