Singapore, 7 August 2015 - Produced by Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) in partnership with the National Parks Board (NParks), ‘Singapore Botanic Gardens UNESCO World Heritage Site’ commemorative stamps will be issued today to celebrate the inscription of the Singapore Botanic Gardens as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The stamp design celebrates the Garden’s rich natural and cultural heritage through the featuring of some well-loved icons of the Gardens such as the gazebo at the Bandstand, Burkill Hall and Tanglin Gate.

Mr Woo Keng Leong, Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Postal Services at SingPost, said, "This is Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is an important milestone for us as a nation and to mark the significance of this event, SingPost is very pleased to be able to partner NParks to produce the commemorative stamps, and having our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong unveil it today. My heartiest congratulations to Singapore and the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Dr Leong Chee Chiew, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Professional Development & Services Cluster, National Parks Board, said, “We are delighted to launch the Singapore Botanic Gardens UNESCO World Heritage Site stamps, in partnership with SingPost. The Gardens is a place where shared memories are forged. Many Singaporeans have grown up playing in the shade of the Heritage Trees, watched concerts with their loved ones, or have had their wedding photos taken in the Gardens. The commemorative stamps not only celebrate the inscription but also elegantly capture the natural and cultural heritage of the Gardens for everyone to appreciate.

Commemorative stamps are selected to reflect and showcase a country's history, culture, values and national achievements. Other SG50 commemorative stamps that SingPost issued this year include Singapore’s 50 years of Independence stamp and Singapore World Stamp Exhibition 2015.

Each of the ‘Singapore Botanic Gardens UNESCO World Heritage Site’ commemorative stamp has a face value of $1.30. Besides this set of two stamps, other related stamp products include First Day Cover and Presentation Pack. They are on sale from 7 August 2015 at all post offices, Singapore Philatelic Museum and online at www.stampdelight.com. The First Day Cover will be on sale until 11 August, 2015.

The Gardens showcases the best and most spectacular of tropical flora, including more than 10,000 types of plants and the region’s most significant living collection of documented palms, orchids, cycads and gingers. Its historic 19th century garden landscape is well preserved and includes the earliest ornamental designed lake in Singapore. Home to numerous heritage trees and a tract of primary rainforest, the Gardens is less than a 10-minute walk from the shopping belt in Orchard Road. The Gardens was inscribed as Singapore’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.

The Gardens was ranked the number one park in Asia in TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Awards for attractions in 2014. In 2012, it clinched the inaugural Garden of the Year Award by the Canadian Garden Tourism Council. In 2008, it was awarded the Michelin three-star rating and selected by Time Magazine as Asia’s Best Urban Jungle.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens is managed by the National Parks Board. For more information, visit www.sbg.org.sg and www.facebook.com/singaporebotanicgardens
